97 speedo/tach issues
ok, so the wife's 97 6 cyl. accord has a speedo that usually sticks at about 20 mph dead stopped or cruising at any speed. once in a while the thing will randomly decide to kick in and work for a while, and will later drop from freeway speeds or wherever right back down to 20 mph.
also, the tach seems to work fine most the time, but once in a while will stay down at 0 and fluctuate only very slightly.
Does anybody have any knowledge or advice that might point me in the right direction???

If the cruise control still works when your speedometer isn't, then the speedometer is the problem. If the cruise control doesn't work, then the VSS is the problem.
I had the same problem, where my speedometer was stuck a 19mph. The tripometer and odometer wouldn't work at this time also. It would start to work for no apparent reason.
I removed the gauge cluster and sent the speedometer to get repaired. It has worked fine since then.
I think that the V6 accords get their tach signal from the coil while the 4 cylinder gets the signal from the ignition control module. I would remove the distributor cap and check that all of the connections to the ICM and coil are clean and secure.

that sounds exactly right, stuck and neither the odometer or the trip meter works til the speedo decides to kick in.
where'd you send your speedo to get fixed? or can i get it done locally? etc. etc.
Thanks btw

i found a place online that I mailed it off to. It was around $120 to get it fixed. I googled speedometer repair.
I could have bought a new one, but honda wouldn't roll the mileage, and would have put a sticker on the new speedometer.
