Default 98 Accord v6, changing trans fluid?

115k miles, i've put around 1.5k on her. Shifts smooth, only time i have felt it rough was accelerating then coasting around 30-40, just a jolt when it downshifted, don't know how bad it is as i don't have anything to compare it to really.

I've heard its recommended to change the trans fluid on this gen, is this correct? What's the best way to go about it?

And if someone has the time could you explain why the trans are lower quality and what else i could do to prevent damage while driving? Thanks

You should change trans fluid (auto and manual trans) per the manual....in this gen I'd change the auto trans fluid more often-so if the manual say 30K, I'd be changing at 10 or 15 k.

On this gen, with a v6, the drain is on the left/drivers side. 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar directly into the drain....don't try to grab a round bolt with vice grips....bad things happen. once the fluid drains, clean plug, re-install. Then re-fill trans (don't have a manual for this so I can't give the amount. Check level, start and run car, follow the manual for checking the fluid.....Highly rec using ONLY Honda fluid (z1 being replaced by dw1).

Why the fail......engineers got something wrong. Some say the second gear clutches start to go then that causes the rest to go.

An added trans cooler never hurts.
