Default 98 honda accord engine compartment noise

The whirling noise follows the rpm's of the motor. Not sure if it is the tranny or the motor or other parts. Has anyone ever had a problem like this. Little car info v6 150000 miles. The car has been very well kept. Thanks

Have timing belts been replaced? One of symptoms of worn tensioner bearings is a whirring noise (bearing grease has dried). If the timing belts were done on time at 110K, were the tensioners (2 bearings) replaced? If not, then you may want to have them replaced; $35 worth of parts and $500 labor :<(

good luck

Had the Honda dealer change the timing belt out about 50000 - 60000 miles ago. New problem today. On the highway today and gave it 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and the brake light, door lights, battery light, and some other lights came on. Less than a minute later they went out. Now I am wondering alternator belt.

Or the alternator itself could have thrown a bearing.

Best way to find it is get your head in there with a length of pipe.
While the engine is idling hold one end to your ear, and the other to the alternator, power steering pump, idle pullys etc. You will hear down the length of pipe where the noise is comeing from.

The alternator crapped out today. A pain to change it out. Looks like removing the fan is the easiest way.

Unless Honda changed arrangement in 98, all previous years from 90-97, the PS is removed (pressure hoses intact but disconnect return hose) and set to one side. Alt. is now easy to access and remove (disconnect negative battery cable).

good luck

I had a 98, never had to remove the alternator, but I think Texas is correct.
