Try this and report back if it works or not.

To place in Valet mode:
1. Disarm the system.
2. With the key out of the ignition, press and hold the Disarm/Valet switch for more than 3 seconds.
3. The status LED will flash once, indicating that the system is in Valet mode.

Note: If a door is opened or the ignition key is removed while the system is in valet mode, the status LED will illuminate for 2 seconds as a reminder that the system is in valet mode.

To Exit from Valet mode:
1. With the system in Valet mode and the key out of the ignition, press and hold the Disarm/Valet switch for more than 3 seconds.
2. The status LED will flash twice, indicating the system is out of Valet mode.
3. The system is now in the Disarm mode.

Was the 1998 V-6 alarm different from the 4-cyl? I had a 98 EX 4-cyl and there wasn't any valet button. Use the valet key to lock & unlock the door and the alarm sets itself. Only difference is the valet key won't open the trunk or glovebox.

The circuit diagrams does not show any differentiation for the EX security system for V6 and 4-cyl. It shows a different circuit for the LX. I couldn't find anything in the 98 Accord owner's manual regarding the EX security system. The instructions I posted were from the security system owner's manual for the Honda accessory security system.

Your instructions regarding the valet key should be correct for the EX.

OK, mine was a factory standard alarm in the EX. Sounds like the dealer-installed accessory alarm was different? That rings a bell.
