Default 99 Accord Gas tank leaking

Does anyone have some experience with replacing the tank in this car? It looks like it was repaired once, probably on the car. Now it is leaking around the seam.

I've pulled tank on my 94EX to replace the fuel pump. Process is well described in shop manual. Following is summary from memory.

1)Drain fuel using drain plug. You may need to jack/tilt car to drain tank fully. Do so to eliminate any liquid fuel (weight).

2) Open trunk and remove trunk liner to access fuel level sensor cover and power connections to fuel pump. Remove cover, disconnect connectors and ground wire on trunk side and feed wires to outside through the trunk opening. Manual says to disconnect from below, but this is much easier.

3) Securely elevate car on jack stands and/or ramps as high as possible (all 4 wheels). This allows access from underneath to remove tank.

4) Disconnect filler neck and fuel vent line from car body.

5) Release tank and lower partially (a large box must support tank).

6) Release fuel connections to tank.

7) Lower and recover tank.

Reverse for installation.

I don't think this is the same on my car. I looked briefly and it looks like the tank is above the rear suspension. I called a gas tank place and they explained that it is a big job.

I looked on Autozone repair manual (you can too) at the procedure. It is similar to what I described, perhaps identical.

good luck

As I suspected by looking at it, it is a lot my difficult.

You can check the link out. http://www.b17gsr.ca/2008/09/1999-ac...k-replacement/

You have to drop everything in the rear to get at the tank.

Yeah, the 98+ cars have a suspension subframe under the tank. Looks like a PITA job.

What does PITA stand for? I don't have a hoist so I'm not going to tackle this one. I found a place that will do it for 2 hours labour and $170 for the tank.
