99 Accord Problem
Ok...i've been googling and searching for awhile. I know that no one can really answer my question that they can't physically see my car, but anyway. I think my transmission is slipping when shifting gears. It has been getting pretty bad lately. My check engine light is on and I need to get my Catalytic Converter fixed, can this cause my transmission to slip?
Also if I buy the fluid to replace the transmission fluid can I take it to any auto shop to get it done or is best to pay the extra money at Honda and get it done? I heard that this might help with the jerking.
I have a 1999 Honda Accord V6 with 168k miles.

Assume this is an auto trans........
What is the code? Don't think, without the code, the two are related.
Not sure of your skills with cars, do you change your engine oil? If so, you can change the trans fluid?
If not, call around, some places (some states have laws) will allow you to bring your own parts and preform the labor. If you can't find a place that will allow you to bring Honda fluid, call for a quote where you insist they use Honda fluid and compare that price to the dealer.

sorry yes it is an automatic...and the code # is P0420.
No I don't normally change my oil, but I've looked into changing the trans oil and it doesn't look difficult. I've never did anything with my transmission oil since I got the car in 08. So you do you think I should just drain it and refill it or do the complete flush process?

The catalytic converter would not cause transmission problems. The 98-02 automatic transmissions had a lot of failures. Changing the fluid with Honda ATF may or may not fix the problem. It is the cheapest fix to try first.
You might want to do the drain, refill, drive 3 times to see if that works (9 quarts total). JimBlake has posted on this procedure. Do a search. It may even be in one of the DIY sections.

I have a feeling that this will make a big difference though because i didn't even know it needed to be done. I wish i did though because it something I would have got done when I first got the car.
