Your diff and or diff bearing is shot, the transmission will need an overhaul or a good used one :-( You could try to get a 2nd opinion from your closest transmission shop.

I talked to a tranny shop here in town and they said it would be around 1800 to completely rebuild my transmission. With what you are saying it needs would it make any sense to just fix that or should i get the whole thing done. Do you think it would much cheaper to fix the diff or diff bearing and thank you you've been a lot of help

Oh did you check the axle splines to see if they're all there when you had the axle out ?

The transmission will need to be rebuild, what you want is a guaranteed fixed price of the job, so they can't jack up the price after they open your transmission, then they will say "it's too bad, too many hard parts damaged" so they jack the price up on you.

I would just sell the whole car, but it's up to you if you have a place to put it and just parting it out. Where is your location ? $1100 for a 99 V6 wasn't a bad except now it needs a tranny :-(

I wish you are close by, i would buy it off from you and either rebuild it myself or do a 5sp stick shift conversion.

If you like the car, you could look around at some junkyards, and find a good used tranny for it. Then ask the shop for a price to simply swap them. Might save you a little money on that price.

Never tried it, but typically to swpa to the 5 speed will run you a good amount more than that repair, so many parts needed to get a full clutch system, the manual shifting linkage and mechanism, engine flywheel, and the there is the tranny itself. Possibly new drive axles for different lengths.

Just a thought or two.
