ABS self check on 2007 Accord
I got a brand new accord a few weeks ago but since last week, there is a grinding sound when driving off after starting the car. According to the dealer this is the ABS self check that is simply making more noise on my car than on others. I found this service bulletin that confirms it:
TSB #110102 -- ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) GRUNTS WHEN DOING A SELF-CHECK. *TT (NHTSA ID #10005871, NOVEMBER 01 2002)
However, that is a 2002 TSB and I would have expected a fix.....Are there other 2007 or 2006 owners that experience the same sound? Has anybody been able to get it fixed?

This is perhapsnormal, but does not happen to every car w/ ABS. If you have an ABS modulator that is extremely tight hydraulically, the accumulator fluid pressure stays virtually constant even during long periods of no engine activity while parked. When you restart, the ABS controllerdetects pressure does not need to be "topped up" and ABS pump never engages. My 94EX is like this and ABS pump never engages that I can detect. I was suspicious whether ABS was working and applied brakes on wet pavement to verify that ABS was actually functional.
However, an ABS modulator may not be tight hydraulically, and hydraulic accumulator pressure bleeds down during a long off period. When car is restarted, ABS controller detects accumulator pressure is below acceptable level (pressure switch closed) and pump is engaged until pressure switch opens. This is the grinding, "brrrr" sound. Then pump will typically stay off for duration of vehicle use.
I don't know for sure but suspect that w/ a "leaky modulator" the leak rate will increase w/ time and eventually, the pump will come on too frequently. When this happens (perhaps 3 pressure-up cycles w/i 1/2 hr), the ABS controller will disable the pump and set the ABS light indicating "internal leak". New or used modulator is usually required at this point. I had this happen on my daughters 97 Acura CL (same as 94-97 Honda ABS) and a used modulator ($75) fixed the problem.
good luck

car is totally under warranty,,,, if you suspect something wrong.. talk to the service manager at the dealer and have him compare your car with another car, same year + model ......if the other car has no noise , demand that they fix yours ,, and if it has the same noise than it is normal

RE: ABS self check on 2007 Accord - Fixed?
I started this topic and want to post an update. As of yesterday, the ABS self check sound has disappeared! I would even say the brakes feel firmer when pushing the pedal, especially at low speeds when coming to a full stop(could be by imagination at work here.....).
So I'm happy because the problem is gone andI can rest assured it won't come back until one day after the warranty runs out .
Many thanks for your responses and I will post again with updates as it happens.
