Default accord acceleration problem when cold

I have a 1996, 2.2L Honda Accord 4 cylinder with 150,000 miles on it. Twjce today (at lunch after the car had been sitting for 4 hours) and when driving home (after sitting for another 5 hours), it did not accelerate well for about the first minute. After that, it was fine. In other words, I would start the car, drive, push the accelerator, but it would not go any faster. After driving for a minute or so (at 20 mph..) it would be fine.

Any thoughts as to what might be the problem would be appreciated.

Thanks

Trolddk

It's cold out. Let it warm up a bit before trying to get above 3000 rpms.

Thanks and I understand but I am in Atlanta and it is 55 degrees...It's not so much going over 3000 RPM, it is that the car is not responding like it normally would. Any thoughts?

By the way, it is an automatic transmission

Thanks

When you push on the gas pedal and it doesn't accelerate, do the engine speed up? That would be a sign of a slipping transmission.

No, it does not rev up. It does not accelerate but keeps sputtering along. Litterally after one minute, it drives fine for rest of day as long as it doesn't sit for many hours.

Thanks

Well, the last 4 days I have not been able to repeat the issue - does anybody have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

It may be that the fuel filter is partially clogged and taking longer to build fuel pressure in the rail.

I am told that this could be the oxygen sensor that is shorting out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
