Default Accord automatic transmission problem, clutch not engaging

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my automatic Accord 2003 2.4 vtec,

I start the car and it will run ok for a mile or two but once the car has warmed up, the automatic clutch does not engage anymore.

Without warning it comes to a halt, after checking the ATF it was almoast empty, no signs of blackness in the fluid though.

A recovery service filled up the ATF with 2.5 litres and said that it would fix the problem, but it gave up after another mile or so.

Today I have have taken it around the block a few times without a issue, I left it running outside my house for 10 mins after and it wont engage again. ( not even in reverse) it seems that it will run for as long as it takes to warm up.

Any Ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Dean

If you lost ATF, then there has to be a leak somewhere. Is ATF dripping from the transmission on your driveway?

Does the check engine light turn on, or the D4 light start flashing when the car is running?

The recovery guy said he could not find a leak, he even followed me home and said he didnt see any behind me.

And no, there is none on the driveway, No warning light either, I dont think i have a "D4 light".

Thank you for the promt reply

Check your anti-freeze for oil. The auto-trans oil goes to a cooler within the radiator. If that leaks, it can go into the radiator, rather than leaking onto the ground.

The "D4" light in the gauge cluster indicates the transmission in gear P-R-N-D4-D3 or whatever. That lamp will flash if the transmission computer finds a problem - similar to the malfunction-indicator-lamp for the engine.

I do have a D3 drive gear with a little green light next to it, as do D and DM when you want to put the vehicle into manual shift, But i have not had these light blink or do anything.

The one thing i can say is that as soon as the gears start shifting very choppy and the car looses all clutch traction, it will no longer indicate on the dial what gear number its in when i place it in DM.

I have checked the fluid level again once the car has been started for a while and it does not seem to be loosing any fluid.

Once the car has been stationary for 15 mins clutch traction returns.

Thanks for your help so far.

Default Help

Hi Guys

I dropped and refiled the ATF today and took the car for a drive, the problem still continues.

After a few miles or so the car shifts out of gear and wont shift in until the car has been stationary for a while.

Please help me!!!
