Cool Accord Evap/Heater housing

Hi,
New here. I have a 2006 Accord EX Coupe. Last year the ECM went bad and had to be replaced. Tough find as it is a PZEV car and expensive. The reason it went bad is the Evap/heater housing directly abpve the ECM has a vertical seam that began to leak condensed water onto the ECM and eventually shorted it out (drain hose was clear). I was cautioned not to use the A/C until the leak issue was resolved. I was told that to pull the Evap housing apart for repair would be mega $$$. The mechanic suggested putting a plate above the ECM to deflect ant water away might be an answer. I started to design an alum plate to do this but am realizing that things are very tight in there and if the any water gets thru, I am out another ECM (if I can even find one). Anyone out there have this experience?

Were you leaking water or antifreeze? Antifreeze has a distinct sweet smell.

If it was water, then you almost have to have a clog somewhere in the drain tube or in the evaporator housing.

I'm with PAhonda to verify what is actually leaking. If it is the actual core then I would just replace it. Too much going through trying to make a deflector. There's videos making the swap easier. I've done a couple and it wasn't that bad

Thanks for your reply.
Not antifreeze (for certain). Drain tube is definitely clear. Evap housing is designed with vertical seam and bolted together (same as crankcase on old British motorcycles - see how well that has worked out). Seal at that seam has opened just enough to allow any condensation occurring to seep thru. Low point of housing seam is directly over ECM. As long as I don't use a/c I'm OK. I'm currently having a mechanic work up a price to open Evap housing to re-seal joint. I think it will be big $$$

It looks like maybe the area where the seam is can be reached when the Evap core is removed and some sealer could be applied form inside (?)
