Accord Exhaust Vibrations/Idle??
Hello All,
I'm new to the forum.
Thank you in advance for all future and past post.
I own a 1995 Honda Accord EX 4dr Automatic 2.2 4cyl Vtec (Federal Emissions).
I recently replaced the intermediate pipe purchased from
overnightautoparts - made by Bosal Part # 284-021 (H5000-51056).
I had a crack in it for about 2 month prior to replacement.
Now my car vibrates a lot when I am stopped and in gear.
I noticed that my RPM is just barely over 500 rpms.
But I just checked with my friend's
t honda accord 95 and his idle speeds are the same as mine.
Could the the Bosal aftermarket intermediate pipe
be that different from OEM to causethe timing/idle speed to lower??
My car also makes a weird sound when i'm decreasing speed on a highway.
I'm guessing that is just a feature of the aftermarket part.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DK

RE: Accord Exhaust Vibrations/Idle??
yes that is a freaking aftermarket mid pipe - i also got this crap = now it roars loudly when you go down from 65 to 55 like a bottom loud fart sound.
however it will not really affect ideling - on our cars - I had an EX myself - we have an additional oxygen sensor on the mid pipe - may be it is not working properly.
I wish I could check the readings with the computer.
Try the idle adjustment procedure and if it doesnt help we'll start from there.
by the way BOSAL is the cheapest crap on the market. I will never buy anything from them or other chinesse crap = Go with the Original Honda all the way! Trust me!
I'm gonna be putting a new Tbelt and a pump - dont ever put inside your engine that pepboys crap - Honda original on pump and belts - always remember!!

RE: Accord Exhaust Vibrations/Idle??
Thanks Evlampius.
I didn't realize that Bosal was that bad.
When i fix the vibrations, I may work more to
buy a real Honda Exhaust.
Here are some other symptoms of my cars vibrating.
When in gear but stopped. I feel the vibrations.
If i turn on the AC on it vibrates more.
If I turn the steering wheel (while stopped) I
feel the vibrations a bit more.
RPMs are around 500-600.
This all happened 2 days after I replaced the Exhaust Pipe B.
I took a 400 mile trip and then I noticed everything.
I guess it is a coincident, but I can't stop shake that feeling.
The muffler guy, bent, banged and torched the hell out of my CAT
to remove the Exhaust Pipe B.
On another forum they suggested I cean out the IAC(EACV).
I may give that a go. I have to gather the tools together.
Would anyone happen to know if you can use a regular DMM
to measure the RPMs on a car?

RE: Accord Exhaust Vibrations/Idle??
IF you havent solved this problem yet, I think that since you put a mid pipe, it might need an additional hangers to control the vibration. When I use to have my eclipse, I placed an exhaust system, and vibrated like crazy because of huge diameter of the exhaust. Only fix is put new hangers. Another problem could be that you have a leak in your exhaust, which I heard could also cause some idle problems/vibrations. Hope this helps.
