I use a cable luber for these tasks, as it forces the lube through the whole cable. They can be found through motorcycle dealers and suppliers for about $10.

When you are replacing a cable or antenna you can tie mechanics wire to the old cable and when you pull the part through you now have a guide wire to reinstall. This saves you from having to remove parts to access the component you are replacing. You still may have to gain access in some places if it gets struck.

Thanks for the info on this item.

It’s been nearly a year since I serviced the latch/cable and it has worked as if it came from the factory.

Thanks to all.

I just want to share my experience here. I have a similar situation that the release cable was stuck. After lubricate it a few times with WD-40, I used the screwdriver to push latch lock lever in the direction illustrated in photo 1, previous post (PAHonda’s). It works for my car.

Thank you for you post and your pictures. They helped a lot. My 2000 Accord has the same issue that you described in your post. Based on what I read, I sprayed a lot of WD40 on the latch, the spring, the cable and the sheave and did some limited cleaning (didn't bother to figure out how to remove the latch given it's night time and I only have a small flash light). Then I used a long needle-nose pliers to pull the cable back and forth a couple times. Sprayed with more WD40. Tested closing the hood a couple times and it closed every time with a snap. Thank you.

WD-40 will dry out. Try to work some grease into the cable. Same idea, but it'll last longer.

All the advice and tips on this thread were very helpful to me. I lucked out and got mine working again with just a heavy dosing of WD40 and a bit of loosing with a screwdriver. I really was glad it was not the cable. thanks to all.

Now that it's loosened up with WD-40, work some oil or grease into the cable because the WD40 will dry out.
