Default Aftermarket valve cover gasket sets -- what brands are good?

It's about that time to do a valve adjustment and replace the gasket set on my son's Honda ... we bought the car used, it has 230k miles on it, and it looks like the current gasket was pasted with goop all around. I'm guessing it's either the original gasket that has been resealed one too many times, or a cheap aftermarket gasket that never sealed well.

The OEM Honda gasket set for the F22B1 engine will set me back somewhere in the $40-50 range. Aftermarket is of course significantly less expensive, but you hear horror stories about poor materials and chronic leaking.

Any recommendations for aftermarket brands that people have used successfully with no leaking?

Thanks. John

I would get the OEM, IIRC the aftermarket f22 ones are a bit big and a real pain to get to seal correctly.

I bought the felproo for mine back in the day and spent a few hours trying to get it to seal right.

Is there an "OEM" brand that will give you a correctly formed gasket? Or should I just buy the Honda brand?

I've been completely satisfied w/ Felpro gasket set for my 94ex. It is a bit tricky on any 2.2L accord to seal the right angles where gasket crosses the camshaft housing. Hard to get the small drop of RTV gasket in place that is recommended.

Make sure you get the spark plug tube seals installed correctly w/ open ends up (? someone confirm).

good luck

I just found a gasket set 12030-P0A-000 on eBay from HondaParts2Go ... they are claiming "Honda OEM" genuine parts, but are not posting pictures of the parts and packaging. It's a decent price though, about $10 less than the ones showing the Honda label. Has anyone purchased from this seller who can confirm whether they are selling Honda brand parts or not?

I always opt for the Ishino brand valve cover gasket kit, Part Number: W0133-1631549 $29.00. If you are looking for a complete top end gasket kit including the head gasket and intake and exhaust gaskets Ishino engine gasket set Part Number: W0133-1611628 $145.00.

Ishino is an OE brand. Other ones I always used to buy were the Stone kits...good quality and they are also OE brand gaskets in those kits.

So I just received a reply from Honda Parts 2GO ... they say they work with a local Honda dealership to source their parts, so it should be Honda label. $37 and change with free shipping.

I also see the Ishino part listed on eBay for $29 plus $5 shipping.

So is it worth four bucks ($38 vs $34) to get Honda brand vs Ishino? (I'm thinking yes ...)

Not really, Ishino is the brand that Honda uses as an OEM. Honda doesn't make their own gaskets. That's why I mentioned that Ishino was an OE, Original Equipment, brand. The Stone kits that are available out there are also put together using Ishino gaskets.....
