alas the speedometer goes to 20, then stays there.
i know there a few threads on this already, but was wondering if my case is related. Speedometer was working fine (odometer was not running), then went to change out the cv axles and went to town on the nut to no avail. In the process we pulled the entire wheel back against the fender wall. well when we put it all back together , when I key the car to 2 position or start the car, the speedometer goes straight to 20mph, and stays there. Did we loosen a ground or something? and while im blabbering, the car is redlining at appx.5500 rpm, when the tach is marking the redline at 6200 appx. wth?

Then the problem is definitely with the speedometer. If you remove the cluster, you can take it apart. There is a small green circuit board on the back of the speedometer that is the likely culprit. You can try redoing the solder joints if you know how to solder. If not, you can swap that board with a known working board, so your mileage is accurate. You could swap with a used speedometer, but the mileage will be wrong.

Ah I just googled the infamous 20mph speedo problem on 94-97 accords. So if the vss is working(and thats the sensor on the top of the transmission right?) then it pretty much is the speedometer? cuz i really dont want to pull the dash if i dont have to.

That is correct. It is the speedometer.
Removing the cluster isn't too bad. In the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum, there is a link to the online manuals thread. From there you can get a 94 shop manual that will show you how to remove the cluster.
The dash doesn't need removed. The center console, radio bezel, radio, HVAC panel, then the cluster. It sounds like a lot, but it isn't complicated.
