Default Almost impossible to refuel

2001 Accord v6 160K auto trans. While refueling, the pump didn't shut off and gas went spraying out everywhere. I've never topped off the tank when refueling. Now, I have to very slowly pump the gas in or the handle will shut itself off. How do I locate and diagnose the two way valve and other related components, the CEL never came on.

Suspect the vent line from tank to filler neck is blocked preventing trapped fumes venting back above incoming fuel.

An accident could have pinched the vent line closed, or jumper hose from tank to filler neck tube is pinched somehow.

good luck

Thanks for the reply. The first line from your reply is good advice. Second line...no accidents in that area. If I pull that vent line to the tank off of the filler neck, would it do any damage to blow in compressed air to clear it out? Does that hose go directly into the tank or does it go into something else first?

On earlier model (94), the vent hose fits on a nipple from the tank. No valve is indicated. I would just remove and check the hose itself and the metal tube from hose upper end to fuel fill line. Trash could have entered through the fill door and blocked the vent inlet.

good luck

Problem solved! I took off the two smaller hoses from the filler neck and drained the gasoline that was in there, maybe a total of two teaspoons. Went to the gas station and filled the tank up using full nozzle volume without the handle clicking off. Thanks HAF members! Marc

Then the blockage was in the hoses or above the hoses in the fillter neck pipes? Did you replace the hoses?

good luck

Default drained the hoses

I pulled all three hoses off the filler pipe and drained the two smaller ones. I blew compressed air thru the middle sized hose, but unfortunately I didn't control the volume carefully enough and I caused a loud POP sound. It sounded like I overfilled a bicycle tire and blew up the inner tube. I looked under the car, near the black evap hoses and boxes, and saw a puff of white smoke. The smoke came from the far right side of the black box. I put everything back together because I had to use the car for a dental appointment and figured I would deal with the problem at a later date. No CEL came on and later on I went to the gas station and filled up the tank without incident. Does you or anyone else know where that middle sized hose (on the filler pipe) goes to and possibly what I damaged? Thanks, Marc

Thanks for the reply and idea of how to figure out what I damaged.
