Default Anyone know what this button is for???

Hi All,

I have a 97 Accord EX, which I bought 1 year old and it has a black button on the left of the steering wheel that I cannot figure out what it does. I am thinking it has something to do with the alarm system, but it doesn't seem to do anything if the alarm is set, going off, or if the doors are locked. Very perplexing! My mechanic had no idea. After 10 years, it is still a good mystery. I was hoping someone in the forum might have seen it before.

I am adding a pic. Thanks for any help on solving it!!

Cheers!

It's probably for the valet setting on the alarm. If you know what alarm you have, look up the owner's manual pdf file.

That is not a stock button, so the previous owner had to have installed, it. if you are that curious about it you could follow the wires(if there are any) coming from it.

I think 'Q" installed it after he finished Bond's car. May be forthe ejector seat or smoke screen.

That is the valet switch for the OEM Honda alarm. My 95 had the exact same button in the exact same spot.

It also functions as the VTEC killswitch. You know, in case things get too intense, like VTEC engagement above 2500 rpms.
