the honda reman trans comes with an external filter that is mounted inline between the trans cooler and the trans on the radiator.

the internal strainer can only be replace if you remove the transmission and open up the case. there is no pan to drop or anything like that.

Yeah, that's me.Thanks for the compliment. That was about 4 yrs ago when I was 52. I refuse to give in to the "years"!

"Drummer",I've had more than my share of Overdriven amps, open headers and drag pipes to start worrying about ear plugs now! I'd suggest you keep using them though.

Well,no true filter explains the color of the fluid in this LX. That can't be good. I'll have to add a remote spin-on.

Youz guys have been a great help and I appreciate it.

Anudder question: How do I get the pass/side shoulder belt to retract back so the stinkindash light will stay off?

DaaaaaBearsssss. Did I mention I was from the South? Yeah,............................South Philly!! Looks like the Bears and the Birds are out of it for this year, huh.

My team is only 3-10 on the year so I cant say much....GO JETS! lol. Yeah I dont plan on losing the earplugs anytime soon, I use them even when Im just practicing. Dude if the tranny fluid is anything other than a nice rosy red cange it pronto. Everyone says use ATF Z-1, it however didnt work too well in my accord so I use either AMSOIL or Castrol Import multi vehicle.

I'd go with the Amsoil because they make great stuff, but Honda Z1 is what is recommended everywhere due to "special conditioners"

If your fluid is all cattywhompus (MacLeod, I'm using your grandpappy's word again!!!) then you need to dump and change the fluid, drive for 10 minutes and change it again ...... once more and you should be good .... a total of 3 changes ..... since 2/3 of the fluid is trapped in the torque converter.

Drummer,
OK, I have to ask what "didn't work too well" with the ATF Z1? Was it the Honda Z1 brand that was mentioned here? Does Advance or AZ carry the Castrol? I've smelled some nasty fluid over the years and this crap is right there among the worst. Do any of the aftermarket additives like Lucas etc. seem to work in these trannys? I still can't get over the fact that these transmissions do not incorporate a filter element. What were they thinking? Ahhhhhhh Soooooo....time for you to buy new tranmeesun, grasshoppa!
Wise man say:"The chain is only as stong as the weakest link."
That's why the reman's have a filter. It's called hindsight.
And for all the Honda faithful, I am not bashing Honda. The engineers were just a bit too confident in the design. Or too eager to believe that everyone was going to religiously change the fluid. Not!! I'm just hoping I'm not too late with this one!

I think you're still safe, I've seen some stupid high mileage honda's on here with stock tranny/filter. And from everything that the master techs on here have said stay away from any tranny addatives.

ok HondatechAV6 there has to be a tranny filter, Ive pulled up sizes for them at work and physically looked at them. Even my haynes and Chilton's manuals both say there is a tranny filter its just internal.
Yes there is a filter and please note the operative word INTERNAL. It's a little too much work for a "yarder" to do on a saturday morning.

"All seriousness aside",(whoused that line?...trivia for all you old farts!), I'll do the straight 3 flush full house 4 of a kind thing that faklore24 suggested, until i round up the parts for theREAL filter conversion.

Hats off to your sense of humor Hondadude!
