Default B7XA external solenoids for V6

I have a 98 Accord EX V6 Coupe with a B7XA transmission. I realize this tranny is problematic.

It has shifting issues that I want to try and fix on the cheap. I have replaced the dual inline solenoid. Can I access and replace Shift solenoids A and B, plus the the Shift Lockup solenoid C without removing the transmission? I believe they are located toward the front side, but I cannot see them and am not sure what I have to remove in order to do so. Can it be done easily from the underside?

I am just tring to find out how to access those external solenoids.

Any enlightenment will be appreciated.

I want to give ti to a friend who needs a car, but replacing the transmission is not an option.

You should be able to access the solenoids without pulling the transmission. You'll probably have to remove items that are in the way. Can't remember the V6 layout but the intake snorkel/air filter or battery/battery tray to get access.

Here's the parts drawing with the solenoids & stuff.

The "lock-up solenoid set" is #7 which looks like it includes #8 "shift solenoid assembly" & #10 "linear solenoid assembly". Is #10 the one you already replaced? There isn't a good line to show where #8 is located on the transmission housing.

"Solenoid A" is #12 and "Solenoid B" is #13. Looks like they're tucked underneath the starter, so maybe those are easier to get from below??

Thanks very much. I will give it another look today. My fear is that I might remove something unnecessarily, or worse, not being able to replace it properly.

The shift solenoid valve A and the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is an assembly. They are mounted on the torque converter housing.

The service manual instructions for removal of the shift solenoid valve B includes removal of the starter.

Was I looking at the wrong transmission? I got the A & B terminology from the parts list for that picture.

Thanks everyone. I did find them all. All are located on the driver's side.

The lockup solenoid C is located near the dual inline solenoid towards the mid line of the car. Easier to access by removal of battery, battery box, side branch tube, and engine connection of lower radiator hose. Unfortunately the wiring holder harness makes it difficult to access the 3 bolts of the solenoid. It is unclear to me how to (re)move it.

The 2 shift solenoids A & B are located on the lower front of the transmission below the starter. This is much easier to reach from underneath.

Thanks again for the quick responses. They were very helpful.
