Default Bad Power Steering Pump

My power steering has been working whenever it feels like it.. belt is good, I have fluid.. but I'm pretty sure it's the bearing inside the pump. (Couple of friends with Hondas have agreed)

So I was wondering, is this bad bearing taking power from my engine? If so.. would it hurt to just cut the belt off until I replace the pump (asap)? Just so the fluid will stop bubbling/overflowing/steaming.

I can deal with no power steering, my old truck had none.. so maybe it'd be ok. Let me know!

Also, could I trust PS Pumps off ebay, etc? How much should I expect to spend and how hard is the replacement?

After my car warms up, the PS reservoir looks as if it's smoking/steaming but it doesn't feel hot anywhere on the hoses.. and it bubbles, sometimes overflowing. The pump itself makes a noise.. a few friends told me a bearing is going out, so randomly my PS will work and not work. Would a new pump fix this, or is it something different if it's bubbling like that? What's causing that bubbling?

if the pump is not working properly,, instead of pumping fluid through the system , it could cause some air pockets to be built,, thus the reservoir will oveflow ,,,

it is as if you keep on turning the wheels with the engine off,, fluid in the p's reservoir after a bit will spill over
