Default Repair cost estimate for ball joint/control arm 99 Accord

hope I got this on the right thread….

So I got an estimate for my 99 Accord today. My mechanic told me (not a dealer ship) that I need to get the front right upper control arm and the right lower ball joint replaced (Also need a sway bar end link replaced, but I would have to hold off on that..)

Entire cost: $770, which includes an alignment and a loaner car ( I need it ).
($1,080 if I get the sway bar end link done too)

I'm not a mechanic and just trying to get a feel if this is reasonable? I've had him do work before and just don't believe he's ripping me off, but I'm not sure on this one…seems awfully steep to me...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Jeeezus thats expensive! Then again, what car repairs arent?

Wish I lived near by,I would do it all for a case of beer.

An upper control arm from say Autozone, its complete with new bushing and ball joint is about 79 bucks a side.

The lower ball joint is about 25-30 depending on store. The sway bar end links are never more than 20 bucks.

Even if you were charged 250-300 for parts,I don't see where the 500+ in labor comes from. The whole job can be done in under an hour or maybe 2 tops.Whats the hourly rate and quote you were given?

Also,an alignment should only be about 50-75 bucks. However,I never had to get one after replacing the upper control arm or ball joint.Since the tie rods were not touched,I put it back together and drove it 4 years with no tire wear or effect.I guess it is a good precaution they take to make sure its not knocked out by mistake.

That is expensive for people that do DIY repairs.

Id guess dealership parts would run around $300. Probably a lot in labor, because the knuckle needs removed. Plus the rental car.

You can always get a second estimate from another shop.
