Beater with Heater ASB light issues
Just bought a $500 94 Accord beater. I knew it would need tires and a serious cleaning. What I didn't expect was the ABS light coming on right after I left the licensing office.
The light lit up and I drove it around town picking up stuff to fix it up. Later I took it out on the freeway to see how it drove and try out the cruise control.
Now the light is lit, speedometer is sporadic, and D4 is flashing on the shift indicator.
Where do I go from here?
Thanks
Steve

It is near the hinge for the glove box. Normally, it is plugged into a dummy connector, but it could have been pushed out of the way.
Post the code(s) on here and which light flashed codes. You can also google cd7_cd9.pdf to download a 94 shop manual that will help.
You most likely have an issue with the vehicle speed sensor or wiring to the sensor based on your description. Getting the codes will direct you to what issue(s) you are facing.

I am beginning to think I am chasing TWO problems. The ABS light AND the speedo/VSS/D4 flashing code.
Tomorrow I will try to find the connector and see what I get. The CEL is not on at this time, so I will be looking at the ABS light and the D4 indicator, correct?
Thanks

Look at the D4 and ABS lights. If the check engine light blinks a code, write that down too.
The VSS can trip both the ABS and D4 light, as they both use the VSS signal. Hopefully the codes point you towards one issue.

So, the D4 light is on steady, the ABS light is on most of the time, the CEL comes on once in a while and the speedo is trying to work a few seconds at a time.
Went to Oriellys and had the codes read. Finding the connectors was a small challenge. Getting them loose was a bigger challenge. They are not going back! A little electrical tape and some zip ties will keep them out of the way but accessible.
The code came back as "VSS" which is good.
Now where is the VSS and how hard is it to replace?
Thanks
Steve

Youtube is your friend for DIY repairs. Watch this video. Looks pretty easy to me. You may have a different opinion.
EDIT: I'd spray some wd-40 on the air filter bolts and the hose clamp on the throttle body. You can use a can of compressed air/air duster to blow away the debris if you don't have a compressor. Hopefully the new VSS comes with an o-ring. If the o-ring looks torn or brittle, replace it. Overall, pretty thorough video on how to do this.
