Brakes Questions???
Hello, I've been reading & still can't find a good answer for what type of brakes to use...
ceramic vs semi-metallic
they both have pros & cons
some say ceramic is too hard & may eat into the rotors or semi-metallic doesn't have enough braking power & produce a lot of dust
& it may also depends on the brand as well
so can i get some help out there?
thanks

RE: Brakes Questions???
The type of pad you should use is dependant on your driving style and the type of driving that you do. IMO, Hawk HPS is one of the best all-around pads. If you do mainly highway and drive aggresively, look at EBC Redstuff. If you need something special, I'd need to know that to give you my best recommendation.

RE: Brakes Questions???
A general rule of thumb as well is that "dustless" type pads don't offer as much braking force as a regular pad.
As for ceramic and semi-metallic, I've used both and the ceramic warped my rotors a lot faster, but they would also lock up the wheels easily when I wanted them to.

RE: Brakes Questions???
i drive regularly sometime i drive aggressive due to the fact idiotic drivers but other than that my car isn't a sport car or anything like that not to mention my car is stock & don't want to push my car (wear & tear)
i've tried autozone (duralast for the front) & advanceautoparts (wearever for the rear) brakes
i guess you can't buy the cheap stuff huh
i haven't tried pepboys but my hearing from my friend he get the same results as me (brakes eating into his rotors)
i prefer ceramic pads & i know they produce a lot of heat, so what kind of rotors should i get?

Brembo blanks are better than OEM as far as non-fancy rotors go.
For pads, you can't go wrong with the Honda pads and I'm sure they can be found online for the same price as the "premium" pads at the parts stores.

RE: Brakes Questions???
just my opinion....I work at a used car lot...anytime we replace the brakes...our mechanic recommends the semi mettalic ones. he says they are the best. my personal experience with the ceramic one are that they seem to squeak more.

RE: Brakes Questions???
I think Hawk HPS is a great all around pad and that is what I recommend. I also agree that semi-metallic is a good choice, but I've had the HPS pads and Axxis Metal Masters (now Ultimates) back to back. The Axxis pads had a slightly better initial bite, but they dust way too much for my taste.
Honda OEM is also a good choice.

does the Hawk HPS brakes produces a lot of brake dusts? cuz i heard a lot about them before from my friend. OR i'll just get brembo OEMs or Beck/Arnley for rotors & pads
