It is a 36mm socket. I just pulled mine off yesterday. I used a standard 1/2 drive ratchet and a cheater bar.over it. Instead of pushing down on the breaker bar, I used my shoulder and legs to push up. So when it did break loose, I didn't go flying. Good luck! Hope it helps!

Do yourself a favor and get the right tool for the job. With a 1-inch drive socket and a ratchet or impact gun, you will not give that nut a second thought, even if you do not bother to unstake it first. With the ratchet having a handle about 3 feet long, you are up to 300 ft-lbs with only 100 lbs of force on the ratchet. A decent 1-inch drive impact gun will have a max torque of about 1000 ft-lbs. Problem solved.

I was once breaking tools on my Accord crank bolt. Took it to a mechanic who had a 3/4" impact gun; still no luck!

Then, to a truck/dozer shop. They let me use their impact gun, while parked next to their shop, for free. But, here is the interesting thing. The mechanic handed me a normal-looking 1/2" drive IR gun...I told him about the 3/4" gun which recently did nothing to that bolt. He laughed and said his gun would be plenty. I just touched the trigger...and that bolt was out.

So, the right 1/2" gun was all I needed. He also had a fat air line and a compressor which was the size of my car. I don't know what psi he was running. I am not sure CFM matters much for an impact gun, but having your pressure over the normal 90 helps.

I've used my torch to warm up that bolt before a few times. It seems that everyone uses loctite on them. I've broken 3 extensions on that bolt on 3 different cars.
As for the axle nut, I just use my 1/2 inch Ingersol Rand impact. They come right off with it.

Assuming adjacent parts can take the heat, cherry-red is nearly always the answer for stuck parts. But, most parts are large enough, or heat-sinked enough, to need oxy/acet to get them that hot.

I have removed the bolt with a 300 foot-pound cordless impact wrench before with this tool:

Amazon Amazon

I have since upgraded to a bigger cordless impact wrench so the bolt comes off with a normal 19mm socket.

Cool. I've never seen one of those before.
