^^ I think i know where he's going with this... the catalytic converters can produce that smell with some age... usually right before they start plugging up...

when you sayed the Cat. Converter has some age on it. about how many miles are you talking about, because my accord is running at 148000 miles its that pertty young, or is it just to much for the converter?

i've seen some cars start doing that as early as 60k, and some that have 200k and have never done it. Yes, 148k miles is pretty young for a Honda, but a cat is a cat, lol... they're really pretty much all the same...

An engine miss could cause the cat to react and make a smell. Does the cat overheat it can turn red. The cat is pretty sensitive. I once cleaned the valve train off on an Accord with bakeclean then changed the oil and put the valve cover back on and it produced an awful smell that would not go away. The moisture coming off the exhaust was yellow.

I have never seen a cat fail. It must happen as the material should fail over time, but the problems I have seen is the cat reacting to an engine miss. I would make sure you have no codes in the computer and/or running problems before replacing it. I had a car just about catch fire as it ran out of gas. It got a miss the cat overheated and floor started smoking as I took it around the block.
