I have noticed that when it the **** doesn't want to depress to take the car out of park, if I keep my brake pedal pressed for a couple of seconds I will be able to press the button.

Hey guys,
thanks for all of your replies. It's been working fine the past few weeks, until today. I backed my car up when I parked today at work. The weather is bad and it's dark today so I can see the "glow" of the brake lights when I press my brake pedal against the door and building. Anyway, right after I put the car in park and released the brake pedal I decided to try it. When I pressed on the brake, I noticed that my brake lights were NOT on and I could not depress the little button on the shift ****. I tried a few times and finally when I did see that the lights were on, I could press in the button to shift out of park. From all the replies it seems to be the brake switch/sensor. How long and difficult of a project am I looking at since I plan to fix the problem myself one weekend. Thanks in advance and thanks again for the replies.

OK guys,
I got my brakeswitch in yesterday and changed it out this morning. I was having big problems with it this morning before changing it. Everything seems to be OK so far since I changed it out. Wasn't hard to change at all, I think the hardest part was getting under the steering wheel to see where the switch actually is located. I'll post again in a week or so to let you know how it is. Thanks again.

Chad,
I was wondering what is the part call that you ordered for your car? I having the same issue with my 98 Accord. Would you happen to have the part number? Where was the switch located again? Thanks

if you cannot depress the button on the shifter lever,, it is not a brake switch issue.. it is a shifter lever issue,, ( dirty, binding, )
if you can depress the button but cannot get car out of park.. First off chk fuse # 47 20 amps in the underhood fuse box,, make sure it is not a loose connection,,,
If fuse is ok..
under the dash above the brake pedal ,, that's where the brake switch is,, unplug the connector to the switch and jump the white /yellow and white/black wires together if you can shift you got a bad switch..
