Honda fluid is blue, but so is several other fluids. Still, if it was a CPO car it's a safe bet that was Honda fluid.

If you've never had overheating problems; never had reason to suspect crud/scale buildup in the cooling system, then drain & fill with premixed coolant sounds good.

I had a 98 Accord 4-cyl & when I have drained it, including the block drain, I needed more like 6 or 7 quarts to refill. So I expect you'll need to buy a 2nd gallon.

Default Accord cooland drain and fill

I just did the radiator drain and fill on my 09 Accord. That is the radiator and the coolant overflow container too. It took a little more than a galllon.

The Honda coolant certainly costs more than the Prestone, but if you want to switch coolants entirely you would might go through 3 jugs of the Prestone, bringing the costs of Prestone to about the same as the Honda type II. I think its just easier to drain and fill and not worry about flushing the entire system out. I'm guessing that a drain and fill once/year should do better than flushing out the entire system every 4 or 5 years. I also suspect that the Honda coolant is superior than Prestone.

Why did you do a coolant flush on a brand new car? At some point, you're just wasting money.

The car has been driven for 1 year and has 20k miles on it. Maybe it didn't really need it, but simple fluid flushes like these can't be anything but beneficial over the long term. I'm planning on keeping this car for a while.

Well, it's understandable and I'm the same way when the money is flowing... not so much lately
