car won't start

car won't start
I turn over the engine and you hear the cylinders firing but the engine never continues to run. There is spark, we checked when we pulled a plug wire. The plugs are kinda black. My wires and plugs were replaced in July 2019.
The shop the car is currently at says for $220 they can replace plugs and wires and it will be fixed. Myself and another mechanic friend doubt the automotive shop has the right diagnostics. We think its more to do with the ignition rather than the plugs and wires.
I don't wanna drop $220 and then have to shell out more cash to find out that isn't all that needs replaced.
Please advise
This is a 2002 Accord with the 2.3L 4 cylinder engine.
There only code being thrown is a bad O2 sensor. I doubt that is the reason the engine won't continue to run. The battery is charged full and has lots of cranking power.

What O2 code did your car throw. What type of spark plugs did you put in your car. If it's copper then they might be on to something. At this point you're at the mercy of the shop since you don't know how to diagnose it yourself.
I would first see if you are getting spark. Are you saying the car starts then dies or it's just cranking. If it's just cranking then it's not the ignition. If it just cranks look at spark, timing, fuel and air.
You can do plugs and wires for less than $60 including getting the tool that's needed. Bring it home do it yourself and see where you're at. Heck it might just be a relay.

I checked for spark before it was towed to the shop. I pulled a wire and saw spark when I held a screwdriver up to it. I used Autolite plugs.
You an hear the cylinders fire when you turn the starter on.

So all the cylinders are firing and the car is not starting? That's not possible. Is the car starting or just cranking?
In the case of your theory of it being the ignition. If you have an ignition that is going out it could start and cut out if the cylinder is going bad or if the ignition is bad it will not start at all (including a bad relay).
Ok you used the Autolite brand but what kind of plug. Copper, Iridium etc
Was there work you were doing on the car before having trouble?
