Default CEL -- P1381 code came up

Hey guys.

My car has been sputtering when accelerating and such. and my CEL came on and the code is P1381 "cylinder position sensor intermittent interruption"

I have been reading around and people day the distributor most likely needs to be replaced. but then i see people also saying they replaced the distributor and the problem still persisted for them... anyone have any knowledge about this problem?

I have a 1996 honda accord EX v-tech engine.

Thank you in advance!

The CYP sensor is in the distributor. The P1381 code is a problem with the signal from the CYP sensor to the computer. The real problem can be the CYP sensor, the wiring, or the computer.

The sensor in the distributor is more likely, but you can do some electrical tests to isolate the problem. If you unplug the 5-pin electrical connector to the distributor, measure the resistance on the distributor side of the connection between the yellow and black wire.

The wires are numbered 1-5.

The 4 and 5 should be the two wires you want to test. The resistance should be 0.8-1.5 kOhms.

Let us know what you find.

Hi again PAhonda,
I came across this older post from you hoping this could
lead me in the right direction. I have a 4 pin connector on my distributor but will look for the yellow and black wires to perform this test. I did a comparison between the old and ‘new’ distributors and do find 2
Direct shorts to ground in the old one. I thought I was luckily in finding the error. No such luck!
Thanks for your help here!!
