Default check engine light (egr system)-- 85 accord SEI f/i

hello everyone, i have an 85 honda accord f/i. im trying toget rid of the check engine light. it's the first 2 indicators...

e.g.:

(red bulb)(red bulb) (clear bulb) (clear bulb)

the light comes on after i drive the car about 1 or 2 miles. it does not come on if you leave the car sitting in the driveway idleing.

the book says to test the egr system. I tested the egr valve with a vacuum pump and when i pulled a vacuum on the egr valve the car stalled and died.. according to the book, that is normal. could there still be a blockage somewhere and is it still necessary to clean the valve? there isa CVC valve and the egr control solenoid valve that needs to be tested. I just wondered if anyone else has ever had this same problem and if you could point me in the right direction on what the problem may be??

sounds like the egr valve and ports are good. Time to see if the vacuum controls are working.

if possible you can get a 'T' fitting and with a warm engine tap into the EGR vacumline and raise the RPM above 1500 to see if the controls are actually getting vacum to the EGR valve. Or you can just feel up under it to see if it lifts.
the other possible problem is the lift sensor on the valve could be bad.
