If this were my car, I'd backprobe the yellow wire at the fuel pump. Verify that you are losing voltage to the pump. If yes on voltage loss to the pump, then I would back-probe the yellow wire at the fuel relay. See if the wire has a constant 12V when the fuel pump runs and what happens to the voltage when the pump cuts out.
I'd use a bare metal bolt for ground during this round of testing.
Your next step will depend on your results.

At the pump, the original ground wire is still connected. Is it possible it could still be loose even though it's working as a ground for my current rig with the switch?

The hondahookup site in this thread has an 86 shop manual that you can download.

Yeah, I think you're right, it seems like that shows it to be OK. But it's easy to wiggle it around & check it.

Now the car doesn't idle too well often dying when warm. I'm thinking it's bc I by passed the relay and went straight to the battery ,Thoughts?
Is there a way to run the hot wire from the pump to the relay, then to the battery eliminating the need for the switch? This relay has 4 pins in a row labeled 1 2 3 4....I'm not sure which pin belongs to what..

I'm traveling so I don't have all of my manuals with me.....so I'm going on memory and this one pic I have saved on my computer.
If pins one and two are connected, you are jumping the relay - taking it out of the circuit.

I'll give this a shot on monday.
I'm living in Missouri at the moment and when it gets hot(90 + degrees)outside the car won't hold a steady idle. Strange enough in the early morning or late evening it runs great. Any clues as to why?
