Considering on buying accord
Hi, i'm considering on buying an 89 honda accord as a work car and it has about 180,000 miles on it. When i stopped to look at the car the sign said it had a new clutch and half drive shaft put in i was wondering what some things were that i'd want to watch out for before i bought it. Any help would be appriciated thanks.

LXi? did it have a sunroof?
if no sunroof it is a carbed car, there aren't many old geezers left that can work on carbed cars. [sm=dontgetit.gif]
In Generalbe sure of good cold start and that it comes down to idle speed, look for blue smoke out the tail pipe after warmed up and reved a few times. At 180k miles,Plan on having the T-belt water pump cam seal crank seal and T-stat replaced.
Be sure the cooling fans cycle when the engine is at full temp.
Be sure the trans had 10w30 or Honda MTF put in it, a lot of people fill them with gear oil 80w90 and it trashes the syncros.

Timing belts for honda's are very important... If it hasn't been done recently then you'll want to replace at least the belt, seals and water pump (as mentioned).... That would probably run anywhere from $3-$500.00 parts and labor at a shop... If the body and interior is in good shape then $650.00 isn't a bad price for taht car, 189,000 miles is no big deal either
