Curing a Cat Cover Rattle??
My 04 V6 (90K miles) just developed a rattle that only occurs at EXACTLY 2000 RPM under load (never in neutral/park) and for a few seconds when cold. It doesnt matter what gear I'm in or car speed. The rattle is in the front of the engine. At first I thought the worst...tranny problem. But I was able to start it up one morning and run under the hood while rattling and foundit was the cover for the catalytic converterjust behind the radiator. I could touch the cover with my hand and stop the rattling. (For some reason,my Helm V6 supplement does not have a page showing the exhaust manifoldbutI assume this is a cat with the 2nd in the usual spot under the car.)
Anyway...all 4 bolts on this heat shield are tight and since it only occurs when the car is in motion, I can't figure out why it rattles or what to do to stop it.[sm=smiley29.gif]Its not hurting anything except my nerves...its pretty loud and annoying.
Has anyone had a similar problem and found out the miracle cure??
Thanks!!
Jeff

RE: Curing a Cat Cover Rattle??
After inspecting further, I found that the cover screws were tight, but 2 of the L shaped holding brackets had rusted thru. Nothing to hold it in place and the cover was rattling against the exhaust pipe.
Thanks anyway!
