Darn Transmissions!!!

RE: Darn Transmissions!!!
Yeah, yeah, I know I post a lot, but it's my thread!
Anyway, I am shocked, if anything... I have found SO many websites with consumer complaints with many, many, many complaints about 1998 Accord auto transmissions. I am tempted to print page after page of all these consumer complaint sites, and just slam them down on the parts & repair center at my local Honda dealership and ask them if I'm going to be treated in the same manner as all of these people. Because, if so, I am NOT going to waste my breath arguing or fighting.
On one site, a lady had a transmission that was acting very similar, to mine. She contacted Honda, and they basically told her "**** happens. It's 3,000 miles over warranty." She contacted the district manager, I believe, and the DM in turn contacted the GM of the dealership. The unwarranted repairs were going to cost her $2500+, I believe. Well, the DM told the GM to give her warranty pricing. She was contacted with the warranty price, which was $850. She did not see that this was fair, as the car only had about 44,000 miles on it, and that in transmission life, is VERY short, and I speak from experience on this. She contacted the DM to let her know that this did not seem fair given the situation. The DM said that was the best they could do. The woman said that it was just unacceptable, and let the DM know that she would never purchase another Honda again. At that time, the DM REVOKED the warranty pricing because she said she would never purchase another Honda! RIDICULOUS!
I had an '87 Ford Crown Victoria with 199,985 miles on it when we sold it. I was the 2nd owner of the car, the first being my grandparents. The past 5 years before I had it, it was driven everyday that mail ran, on a mail route in rural East Texas. It NEVER had a transmission problem... EVER. But these Accords have been having problems from, as far as I've read, 17,000 miles, on. With some people on their FOURTH transmission. Granted it was under warranty then, but still... Fourth transmission? Wow...
Sorry for the venting. I'm just really pissed about what I've been reading.

RE: Darn Transmissions!!!
Hi Guys,
OK, I need some advise. I have a 2000 Accord. I never really had any significant issues with thecar and actually am quite happy with it.Recently (while paying attention) I noticed it revs up and makes some noise while I change fromforward to reverse and have heard it kind of slip into a gear whileaccelerating onto the highway.
I am not sure if this is a sign of the transmissiondying or just normal. I also know there is this class action suit and I looked up my VIN number today and see my car is covered.
What do you recommend I do? I want to keep the car and drive it into the ground until they have more selection of hybrid cars available. While I have changed my oil in the past and a few other repairs on other older cars, I don't know anything about transmissions and haven't done anything with this car except change filters, do oil changes and replace light bulbs...
I don't want to spend money if I can help it. From reading the posts here and other places I am concerned if I (a woman) visit the dealer and don't provide the right info I may end up paying for them to "look it over" and tell me nothing is wrong. At the same time, if they change it how good is the replacemement?
The car is an 2000 Accord sedan and has 87k, and it's a 4 cylinder. I bought it used.
Since you guys seem to know everything about everything, I'd sure appreciate some advise.
Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Darn Transmissions!!!
I know that you are upset and rightly so.. But no offense,,, you are going round and round , this will get you no results to your dilemma ,,,,, Have you contacted the local dealer yet ?? if not do it asap and see what they say and let us know
and the same goes for you CAPTGRAIL .. contact the dealer and also Please start your own thread . it gets real confusing when more than 1 member ask question on 1 thread
But both of you,, contact the dealer first ,, before your blood pressure raises any higher ,,

RE: Darn Transmissions!!!
Nothings wrong with my blood pressure, apparently you missed the point of my message. I was merelyasking advise on a thread that was relevent to my topic and wanted advise from someone other than a dealer. (I thought that this was what this forum was for?)Obviously I can always pick up the phone but I have never met a dealer I couldtrust completely,in particular, unless I already knew what I was talking about. Guess I got the wrong forum.

,it sounds like you got internal tranny issues and the dealer might take care of it for you
just take car in and tell them exactly what you told us,, tranny slips and makes noise , you had another shop listen to it and they said that it was internal tranny problem
And an honest shop should treat you ( woman ) or man with th same professional curtesy, it should not matter the genre or the age ,,
if you were to go to another forum and ask the same question , you will get the same advice ,or i should say , i hope for your sake that they give you the same advice , since it might be covered fully free of charge at the dealer ..
And on a final note,, i am glad that your blood pressure is ok. .

RE: Darn Transmissions!!!
Call honda up and they can run your vin nbr and see if you are covered under warranty. They did that for me and I wasn't, but I did find out about another warranty issue that had not been taken care of =). Hopefully your honda will be willing to help you, they weren't so willing for me. As desert stated above, it wouldn't hurt to ask. Don't be shy!
