Default Delay in engagement

Hello all, new to the forum.
Ive got a 1995 Accord f22b2 with an auto trans. And I’ve noticed it engages into drive very slowly when shifting from reverse to drive or park to drive. Any ways to cure that?

Also, has anyone found any heavy duty rebuild kits for these transmissions? Or any upgrades for trans to make them stronger?

Thank you!

How long since you've changed your transmission fluid? What ATF are you using?

Supposedly when I bought it, it was changed about 10k miles ago. I do not know what fluid was put in from the previous owner. Is that a common problem with using other ATF’s?

Yes, Honda transmissions are very particular; use the wrong ATF and kiss the transmission bye-bye. I'll take it one step further, do a machine flush of the transmission, even with the correct ATF, and kiss the transmission bye-bye.

In your case, try draining the ATF out and replacing it with Honda DW-1, three times over (this will take 9 quarts, hence the name of 3x3). If that doesn't work, then it is new tranny time.

Awesome, thank you very much. I will try draining it and refilling. Do you recommend any certain mileage before draining and refilling three times? Or just do it right in a row?

You want to drive the car a bit to mix the new and old fluid, before you do another drain/refill. I would think a 15-30 minute drive would be enough to dilute the old fluid between drain/refills.
