Diagnostic Test for Honda Accord 2003
I have the following questions:
1. What electronic Diagonistic Tool I need for my 2003 Honda Accord?
2. Where Can I buy this Tool?
3. Where can I locate the Diganastic Port in my 2003 Honda Accord?
4. How do I turn off the engine check light in my Honda.
5. I ask the dealar as to how much it will cost me for spark plugs, spark plug wires and the distributer cap for my Honda? He said you don't have all of them in your Honda.
Than how do I turn up this car, it is nearing 90,000 miles?
I just took my Honda for a oil change to a dealer, he thinks I need to do a diagonastic check on my car and few other things and wants to bill me for over $1000.00.
thank you in adavance.

Your car doesn’t have a distributor but individual coils, so no cap rotor or wires. Turn up will be mainly spark plugs and an air filter. You may want to look in the manual for what you car should also get at 90.000. I would suggest you look at the fan belt for cracks also. I will guess the check engine light is a bad O2 sensor, but take your car to AutoZone if you have one local and they will check it for free. I have a 2003 Accord also. I like the NGK spark plugs but buy most of the other parts from the dealership. You can save about 30% if you order from Majestic Honda. You also have a cabin air filter on your vehicle which is behind the grove box.

Got a V-6 in that Accord? If so, maybe all that money is for a timing belt job. The 4-cyl engine has a chain, so if you have a 4-cyl don't let him tell you that it needs a TIMING belt.
The external drive belt is a bit of a pain, long belt & not much room for your hands. But certainly not $1000 worth.
Automatic tranny? Fluid change?
Post back with a detailed list of what they want to do for $1000.

2003 honda diagonistic check
Can someone tell me where to locate the diagonistic port for 2003 Honda.
The dealer wants $100.00 plug his diagonistic meter to tell me it is time do the next Honda Service. They used to take the check engine light off even if you go for oil change. Now they want $100 to do diagonistic check before they take the light off.
They won't let you see where they have this switch to take the light off. I figure it is somewhere below the steering wheel.

On all 1996 to current vehicles they are using an OBDII. Some GM vehicles from 92-93 have the OBDII installed.
The OBDII Port is usually with in a foot or two from the steering colum. I would poke my head under the dash to take a quick look. It will be a connector that has nothing connected to it.
There are many diagnostic tools (OBDII) Code readers you can get ranging from a few dollars to several thousand. Some provide just a code, others are more elaborate.
I use a ScangaugeII
http://www.scangauge.com/
I like the information it provides when I scan, plus it gives me real time feedback.
It cost me $150.00 CDN. Well worth the price in my opinion
All code readers can clear the codes.
If you get just a code reader here is a link that brakes down the OBDII Codes.

It is amazing what dealers will charge for a 30second service.

A couple of things ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,first off,, Got boost got it correct where the OBDII port is located left side of steering wheel under dash,,,,,,,if chk engine lite is on you will need a scanner to read the code and clear the code
the $ 100 the dealer wants is to read and most likely to troubleshoot the code and not to tell you when your next service is due......
the lite that is normally cleared at oil changes is the maint lite and not the chk engine lite
knowing where the OBDII port is will not do you any good unless you have a scanner to read and clear codes
you can go to Autozone have them read the code , post it here than we can help you to diagnose it ,,but whatever you do,,,,,,,,,,Do not start replacing parts because someone might suggest ( could be this, could be that, it is this or it is that) ,,, properly DIAGNOSE before replacing parts

If you do that, tell us the actual code number, not just the guys explanation. Sometimes they can get pretty creative.
You still haven't said whether you have a V-6 engine and/or what actual items are on that $1000 estimate.

I do not have an autozone here, nor anyplace that will read it for free. Everyone wants to charge a fee for just reading the code.

I've heard in certain parts of the country, that AutoZone reads codes for free but they refuse to ERASE them. Then I've also heard that they no longer read codes - at all. The AutoZone in my town still does it. So you better give them a call to find out.
