Question Do you do engine oil Flushes?

I just saw on Motorweek Pat Goss talking about flushing the oil system in your car. Do you ever flush your oil and if so, what do you use??

Flushing engines can knock large chunks of sludge, clogging oil passages and can wash the bearings surface of lubricant. Not necessarily a good thing. Regular maintenance and oil changes will keep you from ever having to consider a flush.

See, he said that just regular oil changes wont help in areas that oil does not flow that well in the engine which is why these flushes are needed. He said where the oil doesn't flow, it will jell up....

If your engine has sludge it will be mostly be on the cylinder head area. If you dislodge it the sludge will end up on the oil pump pick up. I doubt a flush will do anything more than an oil change. Generally you need to dislodge the sludge by hand to get it to move. If you change the oil frequently there is no point in doing a flush. A flush may fix a sticky(noisy) hydraulic lifter if you are lucky.

Nope. Plenty of motors last in the 200,000 + miles with regular cheap oil and regular oil changes.

I change my oil every 3k which is quite a bit! If I didn't have so many short trips i'd extend it to 5k.

no need to flush,,,,,,,change oil and filter every 3,000-3,500 miles ,,use a name brand oil and no need to spend extra money on more expensive oil ,,
Many of my customers have over 300,000 miles on their cars, do not burn oil, and never had to do an engine overhaul. ring job ,bearings or valve seals ...
if there is a lot of sludge in the upper area ( rocker arm assembly ) DO NOT brake the sludge up or do an engine flush , like it was mentioned ,the big chunks will brake up and plug the oil pump screen , thus, lack of lubrication, oil lite comes on, rod/ main bearings will wear

What about using the seafoam method? I've done it on a couple of vehicles and seemed to have no adverse effects.

I use synthetic, so hopefully it will not make sludge in the first place.
