Default Electrical and maybe engine related problem!

Hey guys. I just realized yesterday that my brake lights are not working. I checked the light bulbs, checked the fuse and checked the brake switch...everything seems fine. I brought the car to the shop today and I was told I'm gonna need $100 up front for diagnosis and if they find the problem I might be charge extra to fix it. Now then, before I go and drop that 100 bucks at the shop, anyone have had that problem before? If so, how did you fix it or what can I do to fix it without spending that 100+ bucks.

Also, my car seems to lag a bit when accelerating. I did an oil change but it didn't change anything. Any idea about what could be a cause of that would be appreciated.

how did you chk them.? did you actually test them or just look at them ??did you chk for power and ground at brake switch?? did you test the fuse ?
it is terrible to ask for $ 100 up front,,,,,,,,,it could take 5-10 minutes to find the issue ..I would chk with another shop
chk fuse 13 under hood 20 amps ,, if ok,,
at the brake switch jump the red and the white/black, if brake lites work you got a bad switch ...... let us know ..

The fuse is ok, since everything else that is suppose to work because of that fuse is working...such as horn etc. Plus I looked at it and it is in perfect condition. For the brake switch, I was told to check the pin that's underneath the switch. If it stuck when press then the brake switch is bad. I did that and it didnt stuck so I though it was good. Then as you said maybe it is something related to the power in the switch. I don't understand what you mean by jump the red, black/white.

Unplug the wire from the switch. Take the wire & make a connection (paperclip, screwdriver, ???) between the red wire & the white/black wire.
