Engine Dies with foot off accelerator!
My 93 Accord has been acting up recently. It first started about 6 months ago when I try to start it up in the morning I have to turn the key to IGN for about 15 secs before I start the engine. If I just try to turn the key the engine will turn but not start. It seems that the fuel pump is leaking down and each morning I have to prime the fuel lines to start.
The other day I noticed that when I tried to start up in the afternoon the engine would start but if I keep my foot off of the gas the revs would instantly drop to zero and the car would die. When that happens I start and have to hold the accelerator past 2800 rpm for a few seconds then let go and only then will the engine run normally.
There is no check engine light and the fuel pump relay has been checked (resoldered). Is this the fuel pump going bad?

RE: Engine Dies with foot off accelerator!
The only way to verify that the pump is working properly is to put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail to observe the fuel pressure.
I would pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and check that there is no strong smell of gas (if there is, the fuel pressure regulator is ruptured and needs to be replaced). The fuel filter may be clogged and replaced.

It is on the left side of the fuel rail and has one vacuum hose going to it. I usually go to Ebay and look up the part to get an idea of what it looks like. The online manuals thread in the DIY section has links where you can download shop manuals for a 4th gen accord (90-93).

RE: Engine Dies with foot off accelerator!
Replace the fuel filter on Saturday and so far the engine starts and idles up normally. I still have to wait in the morning before I turn the ign. to start but this is what I had to do for the past year so it seems that it is two seperate problems. Anyway thanks for the help Pahonda! Really appreciate the response.
