Engine Dies (not main relay)
Hi I have a 1994 Honda Accord It is a 4 banger vtec. I am having issues with it. Here are the symptoms. I start the car and everything works fine till it dies randomly. It may take 4 hours or 20 minutes. So I thought it was the main relay so what I did is go to the junk and got me some relay's. Now when it happened again I just swapped it out with another relay. I figured it would work but it just makes a bunch of clicking noises. It refuses to start once it goes out. It does throw engine and d4 trouble codes while turning off. I got the codes here they are it is the VSS,Egr valve lifter, ignition output signal, fuel injectors and TDC sensor. Now it does start after giving it some time but man I was hoping it was the main relay. Now when it starts again it will start with no issues and no check engine light. By the way the D4 light is what blinks and come on when I check the codes. If anyone can help please feel free post, or PM me and I'll give you my phone number. Thanks.

Did you short the service connector using something like a piece of wire or a thin paper clip?
See the instructions on how to get error codes at this site:
dhost.info/accordinfo/howto/cel.html
Post the codes that the check engine light flashes, and the D4 light as well. Tell us which light flashed which code(s).

8 and 15 are real codes for the transmission computer (TCU), but 12, 15, and 16 are not. In the shop manual, it says that if you get codes that are not listed above, then the transmission computer is bad.
Just to be thorough, you should remove the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box for a minute, then plug that fuse back in. Try to start the car, and/or wait until it stalls. Then I would try to read the codes again.

The abs light should have nothing to do with your problem.
Be prepared to get a TCU for your car, because the codes that were not real should not be stored on there. Junkyards are a good source for a cheaper replacement part. The TCU and ECU do fail, but it is rare.
A site like car-part.com will search yards that are enrolled in their service. You can sort by price or distance to get an idea of what a used one will cost. A new one is very expensive.
