Engine missing 40 - 50 mph
Hello
I can feel my engine missing at about 40 - 50 mph. Almost as one cylinder is cutting out. It is not a dead miss but intermediate. Engine seems to idle OK. My fuel mileage has dropped to about 26 MPG. I was getting 29 MPG consistently
Here are the details.
2002 Accord EX – 4 cylinder VTEC - 178,000 miles
Replaced plugs, new Honda plug wires, new rotor & cap (got from parts house. Nearest Honda dealer is 100 miles away)
Clean throttle body & replaced gasket.
Ran some injector cleaner two times.
No check engine light comes on. It feels more like a slight intermediatemiss in one cylider.
I would welcome any suggestions.
Thanks

RE: Engine missing 40 - 50 mph
It could be the tranmission lock-up (LU) solenoid is cyling in/out due to an electrical or hydraulic problem. This can feel like a miss at speed. If rpm is moving up (LU off)/down (LU on) by 100-300 rpm when this occurs, then LU solenoid is very likely.
Make sure trans fluid level is full, and if it hasn't been changed recently drain and refill w/ Honda ATF. I would check the TCU for Obd2 codes at Autozone, or other parts w/ free scanner. In earlier models, some trans codes did not cause a flashing light on the control panel. Perhaps same for Obd2.
If no Obd2 codes,a tune-up shop can run a diagnostic w/ car on treadmill to simulate load and determine whether miss is engine or trans.
good luck

RE: Engine missing 40 - 50 mph
My car is stock. I purchased it new. I changed the trans oil with Honda ATF at 127,000 miles. I will check to see if the rpms is changing.
I took the throttle body off again last night just to check to see if I clean everything good.
I took the two vacuum hoses off in the intake just behind the T Body and cleaned the ports with TB cleaner. Everything else looked good. I drove the car about 150 miles today and did not notice the miss at all.
Like I said this is an intermediate miss so I have my fingers crossed. Not sure how this would have fixed my problem.
I will keep up posted.
Thanks for the replies.

update: - I was still having the problem after the throdle body cleaning. I changed the trans fliud a few days later and the problem has gone away for now. Been over a week now. I did not change the LU solnoid and hope I don't have to.
Thanks TexasHonda for your help - I think you were right on.
