Thanks to everyone for your input. I figured 5w30 would be ok, just thought it was worth checking as the manual is so specific.

Hondadude - that is some serious sludge, been a long time since I saw a motor that bad.

Hello folks,
Not to prolong this debate any further. But this seems to be the right place to ask couple ofq's

1. Does it mean that 5W-30 is better that the recommended 5W-20?
2. What is the right interval for oil change in city driving conditions?

Thanks

# 1 ..if you reside in a cold winter climate use 5w20 in winter and 5w30 in summer ... if in a warm winter climate use 5w30 all year around

# 2 ...change oil and filter no later than 3500 miles

a lot of people might differ with my # 2 reply but by doing it this way i have many customers with over 200,000miles and some with over 400,000 miles and nevr has an engine issue regarding oil pressure, burning oil ,, when rmuving the valve cover it looks clean , nothing like the pictures that Dude posted

I was sitting here reading this thinking whats wrong with a 7000 oil change, the I realized you guys are talking miles. I used to work a honda dealership during highschool. I think it was the 2000 model year that honda literature started calling for 8000km oil change up from 6000km changes. we still wrote the "your next service is due" windsheild decals for 6000km though.

my therory will always be every 3k to 3.5k. Wither the car has 20,000 miles or it has 150,000. Its worth changing the oil that much when a car is the second biggest invesment in your life next to a house.

So, why does Honda recommend changing oil when the oil life monitor says to?

Three sludge builders:

Short trip driving especially in cold weather.

Allowing engine to idle, (over five minuteswith A/C on), in hot weather.

Operation beyond3500/4000 mile range.

Most vehicles are each driven under a different condition. Some may be needed to be changed less than a 1000 and others may be run past 6000?
