the temp guage only reads 2/5 if it idles for a while otherwise it reads cold? if that's the case I'll bet you've got a faulty thermostat (easy cheap fix).... does the air always blow hot?

well i mean why is it faulty? the car should warm up like that when its standing, and its so cold out that it should cool down when its driving.

but my car still smells of antifreeze when i stopa fter driving for a bit.

if it goes all the way down to cold when driving, then my guess would be that your air isn't as hot, this is because the thermostat isn't closing, it's locked or stuck open so it's constantly cooling.... check the floor on your passenger side and make sure it isn't wet with anti-freeze (leaky heater core) are you loosing coolant at all?

if you follow your upper radiator hose from the radiator to the motor you'll see a metal piece that it connects too (the hose connects to that is) that metal piece connects to the block via 3 bolts, remove those three bolts and the thermostat will practically fall out... are you still loosing coolant? if you're not loosing any then it may just be a smell from spilling some here and there, if you are you need to find out why, perhaps a leaky radiator cap?

as for the thermostat just answer this: if the car goes all the way down to cold when driving does it still blow hot air or does the air get colder too? if the air is getting colder then your thermostat isn't closing, replace it with a honda oem one (gasket too) easy job to do just have some coolant on hand

no, heating and everything works fine as in blowing hot air.

sometimes i think almost nothing is wrong but that whole engine reving itself was strange. Since i fixed it i think the car seems normal, however it kinda
does seem to have strange reving idles such as 2k, 1.5 and 1 and its all different. I dont normally remember the engine spinning that fast when i just turn it on, or after some time.

anyways its worked fine today and i was smoking earlier so i couldnt tell if it smelled of anything but i will see again tommrow.

i hope this isnt like the window being stuck problem, after 2 weeks it just began working again and has so far for about 3/4 of a year....
cough cough..
hehe

i feel like this is cartalk online. thanks alot so far guys.

The fast idle valve is on bottom of the throttle body and held on my three bolts and it has coolant running through it. You can take it off, but you will also have to take off the IAC which is on the back of the throttle body and is held on by two bolts (one bolt is kind of a knuckle buster). They are connected together by coolant hoses, so you need to remove them as a set to access the Fast Idle valve. The IAC has two inlets that can get carbon buildup over time, so you might as well clean those ports out with throttle body cleaner.

Once out, you can unscrew back cover to the valve and unscrew the valve itselft to clean out (have a bucket underneath, because you will leak coolant). When finished screw the big plastic valve down until its tight. Bleed the coolant like mentioned before.

Below is a link on how to clean it out and what it looks like. This might also expain why you smell coolant, some is getting past the valve oring. A little bit of antifreeze loss is probably what you are smelling.
