exhaust quick question
Hi guys,
went under the car today to find out where the rattling noise is coming from, had no luck as all bolts and everything is pretty tight enough, looked at down pipe and found that the meshy thing around this box is loose/broken on one end, should it be loose/broken??
I get lots of rattling and clicking noise when the engine is cold, but once warmed up only rattling noise from back of the car, only when I hit a none smooth road surface

the actual catconverter is after this section
Agree, it shouldn't be loose/broken, I will take a pic of it once successfuly removed.

that messhy thing is a flexi exhaust pipe, it's there to stop vibration and noise. Can do without it, but they are cheap as chips, yet needs welding etc with the new one. It also comes in as a built in with new down pipe.
The question is, would a split exhaust pipe make any difference in terms of fuel consumption?
I have no trouble gaining and retaining speed, just that I get only around 25mpg City run, not that I am heavy footed.

You'll need to fix but you know that.....I don't think you'll pass MOT (?) like that.
There is prob an impact to MPG, the secondary O2 (post cat) is getting a false reading if extra air is getting in.
As for the rattle, double check the "shields" around the converter, see if they are loose....push/pull on the four corners.
