f22b1 ported head problem... (1994 ex)
OK!!! here we go, this is my first time posting on a forum... Sorry for the lame intro...
1994 ex. The original objective was to spend the weekend replacing rubber parts till the darn thing stopped leaking oil. I took it to my roommates shop in Dayton, OH and tore it all to bits. We started by taking it apart down to the head gasket, and replaced all the gaskets and whatnot from there up. Then the next weekend we replaced all the rubber behind the timing belt and all the balance shaft bits. Even went as far as to take off the oil pump. ok so that all seemed to go well. We neglected to replace the cam shaft seal... and thats up this coming weekend. which requires nearly another major tear down.
So!!! While we had the thing apart my roommate took the liberty of doing what he does best, and ported the head very professionally, (please note, its what he does for a living) which at the time seemed like a great idea... Long story short, that all went well but now the car seems very confused about the fuel air mixture, and the vtech doesn't seem to be kicking in.
and as of today I was testing it out, and I pushed it to 6000 rpm and it got very angry with me... then the check engine light came on and it chokes its self out at 5000 rpm. If I let the car chill for a while its fine, or a quick disconnect of the battery seems to return it to "regular" not working well status.
Any ideas would be great. She's my baby, and I'm sad that she's slower... I really need some help.

Use a thin paperclip or a piece of wire to short the connector to read the code(s). See: http://www[dot]dhost.info/accordinfo/howto/cel.html
replace[dot] with . That site isn't coming up right now, but it has good instructions with pics that helps.
Also, you don't really feel the vtec kick in, because it gets enabled anywhere between 2300 and 3200 rpms.

Its about time...
I finally got the codes, and its reporting a 22 and a 43.
As I've read, the 22 is a " VTEC Oil Pressure Switch defective circuit or unplugged / defective oil pressure switch "
and the 43 is a " Fuel Supply System defective or malfunctioning fuel supply system "
The oil pressure switch I'm not totally sure about, but the fuel supply system sounds like a fuel to air mixture issue. Having ported the head, that makes sense. When the engine is cold it works amazingly well, then as soon as it hits temp, it stops working correctly, and looses noticeable power. I've been told that when the car starts up it runs rich on fuel and air till it gets to temp.
So the question is, what now?

oil leak?
It seems to be leaking every where... when all this started, my friend and I replaced nearly every seal, and gasket on the side of the engine where the timing belt is. Needless to say it took us quite a while. Although we replaced all those parts, it still seems to be leaking on both sides towards the lower end. The side with the timing belt is spraying oil every where. The leak on the ground is seemingly everywhere. I spent alot of money on the parts too. I'll explain in more detail if necessary.

Well I guess you got the cam seal, a year ago....Anyway these could be related or not.....really, IMO, need to stop the oil leaks, how much are you loosing...miles vs qts?
On the TB side there are the seals you spoke of-cam, crank, balance, oil pump (did you replace the o-ring?). Does the oil come from behind the TB covers or could this be from the oil pan?
Other end, well there is the Dist o-ring, dist seal, rear main, and the vtec gaskets.....
For the codes, the vetc could be because of the oil leak (?), fuel supply could be an O2....wouldn't blame the head porting just yet.
Clean it up, and try to find the leaks, UV dye in the oil might help.
