You're not looking for something that's embossed into the casting of the engine block.

There will be a surface, maybe 1 x 2 inches, that's machined smooth. Alongside the exhaust manifold, but over to the left. Just immediately alongside the line where the tranny separates from the engine.

The engine code and serial # will be stamped (not raised) into that smooth surface, so you may have to clean it up to make it visible. The engine code should start with F23.

F23A4 is the ULEV VTEC engine. You will enjoy the nice 32-bit computer and wideband O2 sensor... lol. I think they can be tuned...

The second number is the serial.

Yeah, that's a USDM engine, specifically for California emmissions. First digit of the block serial# is 2, so I think that's model-year 1999 (F23A4 was first used 1998).

Hope you got the computer with that, because it's not the same as a 49-state Accord.

Other parts & sensors, just tell the parts-store that you have a 1999 California Accord with the ULEV-VTEC engine.

ya i kinda figured it was a california car because of how it says ulev right on the valve cover. i didnt know what it meant at first but i figured out it stands for ultra low emissions vehicle so i then figured it mustve been something out of cali. lol. but the thing that sucks is that i didnt get an ecu with the motor and i dont know where i can find an ecu for the ulev motor. i mean ive found plenty of just straight f23 ecu's but i never bought one because i figured it wouldnt be right with the ulev. i dont know if thats true though. and i did know when i bought it that it was out a '99 accord so ive been on the right track when im searching for parts. the problem is i want aftermarket parts and it just seems impossible to find any for this motor. i mean i can find endless amounts of parts for the civic engines, and that would be fine if i was keeping my 1.5l, but no matter how hard i try i just cant find f23 aftermarket parts. i would assume that at least a couple of you guys must have f23s in your cars that youve tuned. im really just looking for some high-performance bolt-ons and also a place/s that would be able to make me forged internals for after i get it bored out and hook it up with a turbo. also i was wondering if any of you knew a good ballpark range of what kind of horse power im looking at.
