Fuel Guage Problem

Fuel Guage Problem
Alright well I had a bad temp guage so I replaced the temp guage which has the fuel guage on it. Before I pulled out the original guage I had about 3/4 of a tank of gas registering on the guage. When I installed the new guage which was about 1/4 of the way up it would rise to above F when I powered it up. I took it back apart and pushed the guage to E, but everytime I power up the car it shoots back up to above F, even though it doesnt have a full tank of gas. Is there a way to reset the guage or whats going on??

So what Ive tried now is filling up the tank all the way so it would match with the needle being above F and hoping the needle would go down as I use the gas but after 80 miles driving still th eneedle hasnt moved. Is there a way to reset the guage??
What doesnt make sense is when I pushed the needle to E and had 3/4 tank of gas, why would the needle climb all the way to above F when I power up, It doesnt make sense??

Since you replaced the temp gauge, either the fuel gauge is bad or the wiring got messed up.
The needle is controlled by changing resistance of the sending unit in your fuel tank. It is not mechanically driven. Your tank gauge is reading full, because the gauge sees zero resistance on the signal wire (either gauge or wiring fault).
I have never taken apart a 91 cluster, but are the temperature gauge and the fuel gauge one gauge component? If they are two separate units, then you can try you old fuel gauge. Also check that you seated the fuel gauge properly in the cluster.
