Default fuel tank capacity

Something that I have been trying to figure out here recently is the actual capacity of my fuel tank. Chilton's manual says 14 gallons, Haynes manual says 17 gallons, but if I fill up when my gas guage is on E Ive not gotten anymore than 13.5 in there? what is the actual capacity??

Absolute capacityis 17 gallons. However, all of that may not be usable. I've never put more than 14-14.5 gallons in the 90Ex I used to have or the 94Ex I currently have, even after running what I thought was dangerously low.

My 94EX has caused my some excitement lately when fuel level was low; < 1/8 tank. Engine would die after a hard braking event, and took a bit of turn-over in neutral to start. On one occasion, I was in the inside lane of a major freeway and had some real anxiety till it restarted. I don't remember happening before a recent fuel pump replacement. Not sure what's going on.

good luck

all accords from 1994-2002 have a 17.1 gallon fuel tank. when the light comes on you still have approximately 3.5 gallons left. I am not sure about the newer accords but i am almost sure it is the same 17.1 gals. in my 94 the most I was able to put in was 15.5 gallons after driving about 530 miles Interestingly enough the TL/CL has the same size gas tank :P and I can go about500 miles on the same amt of fuel.

I don't think my gas light comes on... I've never even needed it. Why is it so hard for people to look from one gauge to another?

we had this discussion a while ago and the conclusion that we basically came to is that honda engineered it to read empty with 4 gals still left in the tank. This way it protects the fuel pump a little better.

never trust your gauges anyway, you should be monitoring your mileage as well to make sure you're average stays the average...

its always averaged about 330 miles the way I read the guage, when full it goes past the F and will sit there for the first 50 or so miles driven then start its descent from there. the lowest Ive gotten it before putting gas back in, is dead on E and the gas light didnt come on.
