Default gauge cluster swap???

im new to accord's and am wondering if and what gauge clusters out of what vehicles would swap into a 96 accord? ive heard you could do a 97-01 prelude cluster but im not sure looking for some clarification. also could you swap a cluster from a 98-00 accord?

thanks

From my understanding 98-02 Accords have Immobilizer in the cluster and hence if it detects a new/hostile vehicle it would not let you start as if you were stealing the car. It needs a particular key to be programmed into the cluster and I believe only "Stealerships" can do it.
You probably are better off looking for the same MY clusters and ensure you car does not start with a Key Fob but a regular metal key..

Probably want 96 or 97 Accord. Beginning 1998 they were much different.

I think the immobilizer is actually in the ECU, not in the cluster.

Ok I should say I am not sure about those days cars.. But these days, the cars I am working on, the IC and ECU need to handshake with the Key code being sent from the Keyfob to the cluster and cluster doing the math and sending the answer to the ECU.

You can do the 97-01 preludes, but you have to rewire them some, and its not a perfect fit, there will be gaps on the side.

The only other cluster that would work is the 97-99(I think) Acura CL. Its a direct fit, but the only real difference is the number are italicized.
