Default Getting to MES Connector 2004 Honda Accord

Hi, I'm a newb and I am trying to reset my SRS light. I know I have to short the MES connector. But after removing the panel under the steering wheel, I can't get to the MES connector. I think I'm looking at it, but there are panels in my way. The DIY videos I've seen on the internet has the MES connector in a different position for other Accord models (ie YouTube - ‪How to reset SRS Airbag indicator light‬‏). Does anybody know how to get to the MES connector in an 04 Accord?

Shop manual shows this yellow MES 2p connector at top of the under-dash fuse panel at drivers kick panel.

1) Make sure keyswitch is OFF.
2) short the yellow MES 2p connector,
3) turn keyswitch to On,
4) SRS indicator will come on for 6 secs and go off, remove jumper w/i 4 secs after light goes off.
5) SRS indicator will come on again, reconnect short w/i 4 secs.
6) When SRS indicator goes off, remove the short
7) The SRS indicator will blink 2 times indicating memory is erased.
8) Turn keyswitch to OFF and wait 10 secs.
9) Turne keyswitch to On and SRS indicator will come on for 6 secs and go off indicating system is OK.

good luck

It may there is a fault that is present and code is reset as soon as SRS is reset. Did you perform any repairs that would have corrected the fault?

good luck

I did not. A lot of people said the SRS light can be triggered by frivolous things like getting a jump. I wanted to reset it to see if it would come back on. If it came back on, then I would know I have a real problem on my hands.

The light didn't even go off once though so I don't think it got reset and the code triggered it back on immediately.

The are apparently two types of fault codes (DTC's); latchiing and resetting. With resetting DTC's, the SRS indicator will go off the next time the ignition keyswitch is turned On. With latching DTC's, the SRS indicator will not go off until the malfunction is repaired.

From this I conclude you have a latching DTC and SRS indicator will not turn off until fault is repaired.

I did not find any description of how to access a DTC w/o a Honda HDS scanner.

good luck

It would be worth checking w/ local Honda service dept. There may be some warranty on SRS sytem for your vehicle.

Unfortunately the 10 year extension for the SRS warranty did not apply to my car.
